Abstract

Informal sector workers are a group of workers vulnerable to musculoskeletal disorders due to exposure to non-ergonomic work postures, repetitive physical activity, and long work durations. This condition is exacerbated by limited access to preventive occupational health services. This study aims to analyze the role of preventive physiotherapy in reducing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders in informal sector workers. The study used a quantitative design with an analytical observational approach. Data were collected from informal sector workers through a musculoskeletal disorder risk questionnaire and work posture observations. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and inferentially to examine the relationship between the application of preventive physiotherapy and the level of risk of musculoskeletal disorders. The results showed that most informal sector workers were in the moderate to high risk category for musculoskeletal disorders. The application of preventive physiotherapy in the form of ergonomics education and preventive exercises showed a significant relationship with a reduced risk of musculoskeletal disorders. These findings indicate that preventive physiotherapy plays an important role in efforts to prevent musculoskeletal disorders in the informal sector. This research is expected to form the basis for developing community-based preventive physiotherapy programs and support more inclusive occupational health policies for informal sector workers.
